When people see signs or evidence that something is or may be wrong, they believe, “Surely someone has seen hat” or “I know that someone is already taking care of that.” We often hear the phrase, “I don't want to get involved” or “I can't take care of them.” Elder abuse is very difficult because we are dealing with adults who can make choices and decisions. Elder abuse is an important topic for peace officers. They should be able to recognize elder abuse, of the various types of abuse, possible signs of abuse, and the police response to elder abuse.
